At the 25th YKK Fastening Awards, Akira Sakano, CCO of ECOMMIT Co., Ltd., participated in the judging for the newly established Circular Design Special Award.

The Circular Design Special Award was presented to “Re Tree,” a work by Kanade Konno of Bunka Fashion College, inspired by nature.
The design was highly praised for its long-term perspective, including the use of fasteners to enable partial replacement and a structure that allows the garment to be worn for an extended period.

“Re Tree” also received the Apparel Category Grand Prix at the same time.

第25回YKKファスニングアワードで新設された「Circular Design特別賞」において、ECOMMIT CCO 坂野晶が選考に携わりました。

本特別賞は、自然からインスピレーションを受けた、文化服装学院・今野 奏さんによる作品『Re Tree』が受賞。
ファスナーを活用することで部分的な交換を可能にし、長く着続けられる設計など、長期的な視点に立ったデザイン性が高く評価されました。

なお、『Re Tree』はアパレル部門グランプリも同時受賞しています。

Overall Commentary on the Works

Among the entries, there were works that successfully incorporated the concept of circular design while achieving a level of completion appropriate for a fashion competition.

On the other hand, some works adopted circular design elements but were not able to sufficiently articulate them as part of their core concept. This highlighted once again the importance of education and awareness, as well as support for creators in verbalizing and communicating their ideas.

Many outstanding works were seen from the perspectives of “product longevity,” “reuse,” “upcycling,” and “repair.”
As ECOMMIT Co., Ltd., which provides and proposes infrastructure and solutions for resource circulation toward the realization of a “society without waste,” we would like to see greater incorporation in the future of designs that are easy to recycle, namely design innovations that facilitate re-resourceization.

Even in works with a strong art-piece orientation, it was impressive to see students consciously engaging with circular design and applying creative ingenuity. Through this challenge, what truly matters is what the next generation, who will shape the future of the fashion industry, chooses to put into practice going forward.

We believe that realizing a “society without waste” requires cross-boundary collaboration—thinking in terms of multiplication rather than addition—to create true game-changing impact.
By transcending conventional boundaries, expanding and deepening their activities, and communicating their own messages, we hope these creators will contribute to the realization of a circular society.

作品総評コメント

サーキュラーデザインのコンセプトを取り入れながら、ファッションコンテストにふさわしい完成度を実現した作品が見受けられました。
一方で、サーキュラーデザインを取り入れてはいるものの、それを作品のコンセプトとして十分に説明できていない作品もあり、教育や啓発、また製作者による言語化と発信のサポートの重要性を改めて感じています。

「製品の長寿命化」「リユース」「アップサイクル」「リペア」などの観点で優れた作品が多数ありました。
「捨てない社会」の実現に向けて資源循環のインフラやソリューションを提供・提案しているECOMMITとしては「リサイクルしやすい設計」＝再資源化の工夫も、今後さらに取り入れていただきたいと考えています。

アートピースとしての側面が強い中でも、学生の皆さんがサーキュラーデザインを意識し、工夫を凝らしていた点が印象的でした。
この挑戦を通じて、ファッション業界の未来を担う皆さんが「これから何を実践していくのか」が非常に重要です。

“捨てない社会”の実現には、枠を越えた協業＝“かけ算”の発想こそがゲームチェンジを生むと信じています。
垣根を越えた協業によって、活動に広がりと深みを持たせ、 自分のメッセージを発信しながら、循環型社会の実現に貢献してほしいと期待しています。
